This week the children have enjoyed researching and learning more about The Great Fire of London. This has enabled us to make a range of cross-curricular links in literacy, ICT/computing, history and geography. The children have used a range of sources, including books and websites to find out relevant information and have been taught how to record this in simple note form. Next week the children will begin to use their notes to write their own information booklets about the Great Fire.
Our focus in numeracy has been on money. The children learnt about pounds and pence, the different coin values and investigated different ways of making set amounts. Our learning culminated in the children being given a set amount of money to 'buy' art materials. Once they had purchased their materials they used them to create Great Fire of London collages.
We are lucky this term to have a dance teacher from the Oldfield PE Partnership who has come in to work with both Y2 classes. The children enjoyed putting together a Great Fire of London dance and came up with some highly creative moves.
Many thanks to all of you who have provided their child with waterproofs for forest school. It looks like they'll get plenty of use in the weeks ahead!
